OTTUMWA, IOWA -- One person is in custody and another taken to the hospital after a shooting on Ottumwa's north side.
Police say that the shooting took place at 434 North Green Street.
As of 6:00 p.m. they were executing a search warrant on the property.
"It appears the shot was fired and went through the ceiling into the apartment above where the victim was struck. We got a search warrant, which is standard for the residence, where the person with the firearm was and we are in the process of doing a search of the residence right now and determining whether in-fact it was accidental," said Ottumwa Police Chief Jim Clark.
Chief Clark told KTVO that the shot was fired from a 223 Rifle.
The victim in the case was shot in the leg, and is expected to be ok.
The name of the suspect has not been released at this time.
