KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Kirksville emergency crews rushed to the scene of a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of the new Highway 63 and Highway 11 East.

Police told KTVO a pickup driven by Robert G. Smith, 45, of La Plata pulled from Highway 11 and struck a northbound tractor-trailer in the side.

The semi was driven by Jerry Vaugh, 51, of Leon, Iowa.

The pickup suffered significant damage, and Smith was transported to the hospital by private vehicle.

Officers said Smith was complaining of neck pain.

Smith worked for a company that marks utilities, and the impact of the crash scattered paint cans all over Highway 63.

Vaugh was not hurt in the crash.

Police said Smith would be issued a citation for failure to yield at a stop sign.
