KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The prosecutor and judge cut no deal for a local lawnmower thief.

Jesse Gawlik, 33, of Kirksville is headed to prison for four years after pleading guilty Tuesday to a felony stealing charge.

The suspect was sentenced Tuesday.

He was arrested in October 2011 for stealing a trailer with two lawnmowers on it.

Kirksville police detectives with help from Adair County sheriff's deputies took Gawlik into custody a few days after they were called to investigate a theft at the Kirksville Wendy's restaurant on October 2, 2011.

Investigators learned that Gawlik and another person hooked up the trailer to Gawlik's pickup truck and took off with the items.

Review of video surveillance and information gained during a traffic stop led detectives to the two suspects.

Gawlik could have received seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, but he instead got four.
