ELDON, IOWA -- Technology is once again playing a major role in educating the public about the American Gothic House in Eldon, Iowa.

With the help of a grant funded by Humanities Iowa and the Central Iowa Tourism Region, the American Gothic House Center was able to purchase four outdoor panels that present information about the Gothic House and Grant Wood’s famous painting, “American Gothic.”

KTVO spoke with Holly Berg, Administrator of the American Gothic House Center about the panels, including the new QR codes built into each panel.

The codes allow a visitor to scan the panel with their phone, in which they are directed to the center’s website, where they can learn about the house and the painting, even when the American Gothic House Center is not open.

 "This new outdoor exhibit area will be a wonderful way for the American Gothic House Center to reach and educate more visitors on the rich history of the American Gothic House and Grant Wood's most famous painting American Gothic,” Berg said.

Berg added that if many people use the QR codes on the panels frequently, the American Gothic House could receive more grants in the future.
