OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Election season is in full swing; with so many issues on the table many are wondering: will it be the incumbent Democrat Mary Gaskill or 24-year-old Republican Blake Smith for Iowa House District 81?

Gaskill said she is the better candidate due to her life experiences and the more than a decade of serving the people of Iowa.

One of the issues she is focusing on is universal preschool. She has continued to stress the importance of it in the state of Iowa.

“I want to make absolutely sure that we continue to fund that so that our kids can get a good start because it's proven by statistics that you absolutely learn better in your early years so let’s help them, let's give them a chance,” said Gaskill.

Gaskill said she is busy campaigning, knocking on doors and meeting with constituents.
