KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It's a very special day for John Morley, a native of Sullivan County. On Aug. 17, 2012, he turned 100 years old.

Morley has been living in the Highland Crest Assisted Living complex in Kirksville, Mo. for the past two and a half years. He spent most of his life working on his farm near Pollock, Mo, where he raised cattle, hogs, chicken and sheep with his wife, the late Merril Morley. It wasn't until he was 89 years old that he sold the farm to his son.

He's still walking with a cane and said he's feeling as good as he ever has and is enjoying life at 100.

"I don't do anything. Not one thing," said John Morley.  "They even cut my toenails for me. O yes, it's nice, it's really nice."

When asked what's the secret to living to 100, he said cornbread and beans. His children tell KTVO that he always kept a garden and mostly ate the food he grew on his farm. Morley is also fascinated by electricity and his family members said he even has his own cell phone.

Morley has three children, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandkids. He will have a 100th birthday party on Aug. 18 at the Days Inn from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friends and family are invited to stop by.
