OTTUMWA, IOWA -- One national retailer helped local kids get school supplies as they go back to school.

On Wednesday at the Target in Ottumwa, 19 students were able to get $80 worth of school supplies. The retailer donates the gift cards to The Salvation Army, who then takes the students to the store to get what they need.

“Target graciously gives us gift cards for our back to school season, and so we have 19 gift cards that we are using to take 19 children to get their school supplies for their back to school shopping. Like I said, Target graciously provides them for us and we are able to use them to help 19 children go back to school,” said Captain Oliver Knuth of The Salvation Army in Ottumwa.

Knuth told KTVO that Target employees also give back to the community by volunteering through the organization, which many of the Ottumwa employees do.

If you would like to donate school supplies for the less fortunate, you are asked to contact the First Pentecostal Church in Ottumwa.
