ELDON, IOWA -- Ten pounds of ribs – that was the entry fee for the 14 teams that competed in the 6th Annual BBQ Rib Cook-Off in Eldon on Saturday.
Contestants told KTVO that it wasn’t so much about the competition but rather having a good time with good friends and good food.
However, the first prize winner did receive $100 and the cook-off trophy.
“I’ve been smoking ribs since about 8:30 this morning and it’s something I did last year and I got second place in it last year so I’m doing it again this year. I did -- well the ribs I turned in are bacon-wrapped ribs I smoked for six and a half hours and these two I’m turning in to donate,” said Joel McDowell, cook-off contestant.
After the judging, everyone who attended the cook-off were treated to all of the teams’ ribs and various sides.
