KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A summer program has expanded to make sure children get a free lunch.

The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri are holding the Food 4 Kids free summer lunch program in Brasher, P.C. Mills, Memorial, and Jaycee Parks in Kirksville now until August 3.

Parents and children can come by Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and enjoy a well balanced meal.

"We feed kids who are unable to get lunches anywhere else who are food insecure. They can know food is here Monday through Friday and they can just come in and eat. That's the whole purpose, just feeding kids around Kirksville who need it," Food 4 Kids Intern Dagmar Velez

Food 4 Kids organizers are getting the word out to have more kids come to the program because of the low turn out at Kirksville High School last month in June. It was mostly due to that no transportation was provided to the school. But this time around with four parks doing the Food 4 Kids program, more kids and parents can simply walk over to the nearest park and eat their lunches.

"I want everyone to know about Food 4 Kids. This is a great program. Feel free to come out and take advantage of this program," Velez said.

The Food 4 Kids summer program was created to help children who are on free and reduced lunch during the school year receive a nutritious meal when school is out for the summer vacation.
