BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- A six-foot red-tailed boa constrictor that was reported missing from Davis County High School earlier this summer has been found.
The snake’s owner, Davis County science teacher Joe Pisarik, had resigned from the district, and as he was packing up his classroom over the Memorial Day weekend, he discovered the snake was missing.
At the time, the Bloomfield Police Department notified the public that they should be on the lookout for the creature, and that it could possibly be a threat to pets and small children.
Today, KTVO learned that the reptile never left the building.
The snake was found Wednesday morning by a janitor. The boa was in a container in a classroom.
The snake was alive, but suffering from extreme dehydration.
“Now it is back, and it is safe and secure, and all of the people of Davis County and Bloomfield can feel safe and secure that this snake is no longer on the loose,” said Dan Maeder, superintendent of Davis County Schools.
Maeder says the snake is with the teacher’s parents at the moment, and he assumes the snake will be reunited with its owner soon.
