KIRKSVILLE, MO -- More federal funds are coming to the Show-Me-State for transportation improvements.

At Tuesday afternoon's City of Kirksville Airport and Transportation Commission meeting, the announcement was made that President Obama signed the "Moving Forward In The 21st Century Transportation Act" on July 6.

This new bill will give federal funds for transportation improvements across all 50 states. $911 million will be given to Missouri for the next two fiscal years through 2014.

"MODOT will now review this bill and provide guidance to the districts and communities as they access what is really included in this very large bill. It's over 550 pages long," said City of Kirksville Public Works Director John Buckwalter. "We would like to see the aid to urban area programs increase a little bit. We would like to see aid additional funds for programs such as safe routes to school. We just don't know where the funds will be going for some time."

Other items discussed at the meeting were the continued road improvements on Normal, Patterson, Franklin, and Jefferson.

Also discussed were the upcoming Kirksville Regional Airport's Air show in September and the continued success of Cape Air.
