KIRKSVILLE, MO -- With summer in full effect, the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri is making sure elementary-aged kids who are less fortunate are cared for in the time before school rolls back around in the fall.

The Adopt-A-Buddy campaign is on going in the area.

For every $180 raised, one child is able to be sponsored for a year.

In Adair county, they've raised enough money to start programs in Brashear and Novinger Elementary School's but for other surrounding counties, the need is still great.

"It's not Adair County, they raised a lot of money. That's good for them," said Mike DeSantis, from the Food Bank Central and Northeast Missouri. "For Putnam, Sullivan County's and for Linn Co., we want to make sure those kids get as much food as possible, but we really need to encourage local people to donate."

Right now, Sullivan County has raised enough to adopt 7% of its students, Putnam County 5.5% and Linn County 26%.
