OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The City of Ottumwa is ready to procede with the next phase of the multi-million dollar, multi-year Southside Sewer Separation Project and wants resident's input.
The public is invited to an informational meeting about the next phase of the South Ottumwa Sewer Separation Project. The meeting will be on Monday, July 2, at 6 p.m. at the Evans Middle School Library. Attendees are asked to enter on the west side of Evans from the parking lot and go all the way down the hall to the library.
The meeting is for sharing information with the community about the project’s construction schedule, work zone street closings, impacts of the project on the neighborhood and other public improvements. The meeting is open to the public; residents and businesses in the project area are especially invited to attend.
The upcoming Phase V, Division 1 project area is bordered by Richmond Avenue on the north, Ferry Street on the east, Hamilton Avenue on the south, and Kettle Creek on the west.
Construction work on the South Ottumwa Sewer Separation has been underway since 2006.
The project is aimed at bringing Ottumwa into compliance with national clean water standards, reducing the amount of pollution being discharged the environment and lower the incidence of raw sewage backups in resident’s basements.
The project is being funded primarily through federal appropriations and local option sales tax revenues.
