BONAPARTE, IOWA -- The town of Bonaparte, Iowa took a step back in time Saturday into the Civil War Era.

The ladies wore dresses with hoop skirts, as they did back in the day, and the men carried around their guns.

Members of the Second Missouri Infantry K put on an authentic show for spectators; gun-fire could be heard all around the town. The Second Missouri Infantry Company K travel around the country participating in Civil War reenactments

“Well we gave demonstrations, safety tests -- you know -- why guns are not a toy. These are all real guns, all fully functional. They are not a toy,” said Leo Fikes, a member of the Second Missouri Infantry Company K.

There were activities for all ages on Saturday. Kids learned how to make rope as they did during the Civil War Era.

“This is what got us where we’re at today -- I guess -- and makes us appreciate what they had to go through for us to have what we have today. And knowing that we all came from a part of this from our ancestors,” said Jan Mayo, Bonaparte resident.

This is the second year Bonaparte has had the Civil War Reenactment.
