KIRKSVILLE, MO -- More improvements are on the way for Kirksville.
At Wednesday afternoon's tax increment finance commission meeting, members discussed upcoming projects for the downtown Kirksville district.
One of the projects is an update to the Franklin Street design.
The plan includes improving the streetscape on the west side of Franklin from Jefferson Street south to Normal, then on both sides of Franklin from Normal Street south to Patterson.
City officials are confident this will be beneficial to both the city and Truman State University.
"It's going to help the city as a whole and Truman students. Once the whole thing is done, it will be very inviting to the campus and downtown. It will be certainly change the look of that whole section of Franklin Street," said Kirksville Assistant City Manager Melanie Smith.
Another project on the list for the committee is considering whether or not to enhance the streetscape on Jefferson Street near A.T. Still University near the new dental school.
"Anytime we look at new development, such as the new dental school which we are really excited about, we want to make sure it fits in with the community as a whole." Smith said. "So extending the streetscape seems to make sense. We'll just have to see what is decided ultimately."
The committee will continue looking into this in the next few months.
