KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- What’s the price you pay when you shoot at a law enforcement officer? 

Well, Jerod Reed of Kirksville found out Tuesday afternoon in an Adair County Courtroom. 

During a March bench trial Reed was found guilty by Adair County Circuit Judge Russell Steele of four felony charges. 

The charges stem from an incident last year, in which Kirksville Police were attempting to take Reed into custody on another charge, when he pulled a small handgun from his pocket and fired a shot at the officers. 

Reed was sentenced to 12 years in prison on two counts of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer. 

He received seven years on the armed criminal action conviction and three years on the resisting arrest conviction. 

The prison terms were ordered to be served at the same time. 

Reed will have to serve at least 85% of his sentence before having any chance of being released.
