DES MOINES, IOWA -- No word yet on whether, Appanoose County Attorney Richard Scott will be able to return to his duties.

The Iowa Supreme Court is considering whether to continue an emergency order issued earlier this month suspending  Scott for allegedly neglecting his official duties.

The court heard oral arguments Tuesday afternoon and took the matter under advisement. His attorney, David Brown, has said Scott wants to return to his elected position and there is no reason he cannot.

A state attorney disciplinary board sought the suspension of Scott's law license on an emergency basis, saying his job performance "poses a substantial threat of serious harm to the public."

The board's petition listed six misdemeanor cases that were dismissed because Scott was unavailable and a seventh where asuspect sat in jail for 126 days before being released because he did not file an indictment in time.
