Missouri fugitive in custody after stand-off with law enforcement in Centerville, Iowa

CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- A Memphis man with outstanding warrants in Adair County has been arrested.

Richard D. Bliefert, 36, of Memphis, Missouri was arrested around 4 p.m. Friday at a residence in Centerville, Iowa.

According to Centerville Police, the department received report of a family disturbance. Bliefert was at his mother’s home, causing a disturbance and allegedly becoming more violent and attempting to find a firearm.

The South Central Iowa Drug Task Force Special Operations Group set a perimeter around the residence and began to make contact with Bliefert. After several conversations with negotiators, Bliefert exited the home and was immediately taken into custody.

Bliefert is currently being held in the Appanoose County Jail awaiting extradition to Missouri.

The Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, South Central Iowa Drug Task Force, Centerville Fire Department and Mercy Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted Centerville Police in this incident.
