KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Dozens of Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine students spent the latter part of Saturday afternoon cleaning up downtown Kirksville.

About 60 students showed up for annual clean-up. The students said they volunteer every year to spruce up downtown so that it looks spectacular when families of KCOM and Truman students come to town for graduation ceremonies throughout the month of May.

"It's important to have the cleanup every year because a lot of us are coming from outside of Kirksville," said Jody Furth, the 2014 KCOM Class President.

"It's really important for us to give back to the Kirkville community. The Kirksville community does so much for us to help us succeed in medical school. So it's something nice that we can do for the people of Kirksville."

Some of the students even brought their children along to clean up, saying they have to earn their keep too.

After the clean-up, the students were treated to a dinner, sponsored by local businesses.

The Graduation Ceremony for the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine Class of 2012 is Saturday, May 12.
