OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Wapello County Attorney Lisa Holl isn’t ready to give up her job just yet. Holl plans to run for the office of county attorney in November, which will be the first time she will face voters.

Holl, a graduate of the University of Iowa, was appointed to the position by the Wapello County Board of Supervisors after the previous county attorney, Allen Cook, resigned.

“I am running for re-election because in the year and a half that I have been in the position of county attorney, I think I have done a good job of holding people accountable that commit crimes here in Wapello County. I have brought in some good attorneys that also have that same viewpoint. I love my job. I love serving the people of Wapello County, and I would love to continue doing that for a couple more years,” said Holl.

Holl’s office is one of the busiest in southeast Iowa. And even though the case-load is big, Holl told KTVO that one big project she has been working on is establishing a Mental Health Court for Wapello County.

"Something that I am involved in at the county is the beginning of the Mental Health Court here in the 8th Judicial District. I have worked with the defense bar, probation parole and judges here in Wapello County to find a place for individuals that commit crimes, yet have mental illness where incarceration would not be appropriate, yet they are being held accountable,” said Holl.

The Mental Health Court program begins in Wapello County July 1st.
