OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The United Way celebrated National Volunteer Week Wednesday by honoring the volunteers that give back to the community.

The organization hosted an open house of their new volunteer center throughout the day Wednesday. New aspects of the center offer more resources to volunteers and organizations.

"We recently converted our staff meeting space to a volunteer work station, so we're showing people the new layout and the resources that we have available," said Ali Wilson, Volunteer Center Coordinator.

The day was also celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a ceremony for the volunteers.

"We will be recognizing our volunteers, it is National Volunteer Week, that's why we're doing all this today, so we'll be recognizing our volunteers and just thanking them for all the work they do for United Way," Wilson said.

The open house and ceremony were also a great opportunity for people who don't know about the United Way to learn more about it.
