Authorities say alcohol may have led to ATV accident that sends one to the hospital

NEAR KEOSAUQUA, IOWA -- A Keosauqua man has been transported to the hospital with a serious head injury after being involved in an ATV accident Sunday afternoon.

According to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, 36-year-old Travis Gonterman was taken to Van Buren County Hospital and then later transported to University of Iowa Hospital with a significant head injury.

The Sheriff's Office said in a press release that the accident happened around 2 :30 pm at the intersection of 170th Street and Lick Creek Road, northwest of Keosauqua.

They said Gonterman was not wearing a helmet and that alcohol may have played a factor. The accident is still under investigation.
