KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- One child is transported to the hospital after sustaining burns on Saturday evening.

According to the Kirksville Fire Department, they responded to a residence on the 500 block of Meadow Crest Drive around 7:30 p.m., after receiving a call for help stating there was a structure fire and a kid that had jumped off the balcony.

When firefighters arrived, they said nothing was on fire and that two people were waiting on the ground.

Battalion Chief Randy Singleton said they were told that the child was squirting lighter fluid into a fire pit and sustained burns.

He was transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center, along with a adult female.
