The shuffling of lottery revenue to schools used to be somewhat of a shell game several years ago, according to State Representative Zachary Wyatt, but he says that’s not the case anymore.
“Nowadays…there’s around three deposits made every month or so for schools with their funds. One comes from the Foundation Formula, the next one comes from lottery funds and the next one comes from the transportation dollars,” Wyatt said.
The lottery revenue for schools is not part of the Foundation Formula, the complex mathematical equation that’s used to divvy up funding for public schools.
He said the lottery money is separate, bonus funding for districts.
Wyatt added the amount of lottery revenue that goes to Missouri schools varies constantly depending on ticket sales, and the amount disbursed to each district is based on the size of the district and the number of students in each district.
