Comes after caucus voting disputes
OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Republican Party of Iowa appointed a committee on Monday to review the state’s leadoff presidential caucuses, which were marred by a disputed vote count.
The 17-member Iowa Caucus Review committee would study everything from vote counting procedures to public relations.
“What went wrong was the certification process, the e-forms. What went right was the reporting, the thousands of people that attended the caucuses and had a chance to cast their votes and the excitement of caucus night,” says Trudy Caviness, Wapello County Republican Chair.
On caucus night, Romney was declared the winner but the certification process two weeks later declared that Santorum was actually the winner.
In years past, the caucuses have typically had a front-runner. However, this year was a historically close caucus which brought out the flaws of the republican caucus.
The goal of the review committee is to alleviate all future mistakes.
