OTTUMWA, IOWA -- A southeast Iowa business is asking for the public’s help after their property was stolen from a construction site in late February.

Christner Contracting of Ottumwa is asking the community for tips or any information leading to those responsible for stealing thousands of dollars of equipment from a construction project on Pennsylvania Avenue near Ottumwa Regional Hospital.

Dee Christner told KTVO Thursday that it is not just their business at risk when it comes to burglaries; it is the community as a whole.

“You know, if they were willing to perform this act in a high traffic area, in the morning, right on Pennsylvania Avenue, then I think anybody could be at risk. So, we are asking for the public to help us catch them. If anything leads to an arrest, we are willing to get a reward for them. But, I think as a community, we need to come together and let people know it is not ok to do this,” said Christner.

The items that were stolen include tools. Those tools have the initials, “CC” on them. Christner is asking if anyone tries to sell you these tools, or trade them in, contact the Ottumwa Police Department.

Christner provided this statement about the recent burglary.

On February 20th at 5:04 a.m., ORHC’s security system caught on tape a dusty 2000 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab, blue or black in coloring, pulling into the Hospice parking lot, on one of the busiest streets in Ottumwa, and stealing our job trailer without any consideration on how their selfish act affects our business and community.

If they were willing to perform such an act in a high traffic area, very visible to all, then anyone could be at risk. We are asking for the public’s help to send a message that, if you steal, we will come together as a community to find you. Christner Contracting is offering a reward for any information that leads to an arrest and asks that if you and information regarding this matter to call the Ottumwa Police Department.
