KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- On your mark, get set, plunge!

That's exactly what dozens of people did Saturday, Feb. 11. The 7th Annual Polar Plunge event took place at Thousand Hills State Park in Kirksville. The theme for 2012 was "Peace, Love, Plunge. "

One group really dressed the part with their tie dye shirts and afros. A team from Complete Family Medicine dressed up as smurfs. While another group dressed up as Angels in honor of Corey.

More than 190 plungers including KTVO's own Ela Soroka and Vanessa Alonso not only braved the cold weather, but the cold water as well all while helping raise money for a good cause. Here are the reactions of a couple participants.

"It's a lot of fun, it's for a great cause it give back to the community and it shows that we are devoted to special Olympics," said Katelyn Stauffer, of Kirksville FFA.

"I always do the torch run every year so I thought it would be interesting to try this, but I signed up a few weeks ago when it was 50 degrees out. Wasn't expecting for it to be this cold out," said Larry Logston.

Awards were given out to the individual and group that raised the most donations. This year's overall goal was to raise $30,000 and organizers said they believe they reached that goal.
