KIRKSVILLE, MO -- For Friday's Facebook Story of The Day, many of you wanted to know about bond amounts and the guidelines.

The Adair County Prosecutor's Office in Kirksville says that under Missouri law, judges in criminal cases set the bonds for the individual involved in the crime.

The bond amount is determined based on the classification of the case and the charges issued.

The two main issues judges must review before they decide bond is if the criminal will threaten public safety and will they appear on their scheduled court date.

"Obviously, there is an argument to be made that anyone who commits a crime, there's a risk to public safety. absolutely agree. but then, the question becomes what conditions can be set forth to maintain that public safety," said Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson.

A few of the conditions to ensure public safety from the criminal include the individual wearing a monitoring device or not allowing them to live in the community where the crime happened.

If the criminal does not show up in court, a warrant can be issued for their arrest.
