KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- February is National Heart Month and according to health officials, heart disease is the leading cause of death in women.
One way to lower your risk is to know about heart disease and your symptoms.
The Healthy Woman’s Program at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville is putting on a free event on Thursday, February 16th.
“An Affair with the Heart” is this year’s theme. Woman of all ages are encouraged to attend.
It runs from 5:30pm-8:30pm, and during the three hours a wide variety of events will be taking place. Those include: exercise and cooking demonstrations, and a tour of the new Cath Lab at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
“Our goal is to increase awareness for women, and not just themselves, but for their families,” said Healthy Woman’s coordinator Laura Gruber. “They will also learn how to create a healthy lifestyle that's going to help their whole health as a whole, but particularly with their heart.”
