KIRKSVILLE, MO -- For Wednesday's Facebook Story of The Day, many of you wanted to know more about the Buddy Pack Program in Northeast Missouri.

The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri partners with elementary schools across the region to provide a backpack filled with kid-friendly nutritious foods that children in need can take home on weekends or when school is out on breaks. This is done to help supplement their meals when there isn't enough to eat at home.

The program is now doing an "Adopt-A-Buddy" program to keep funding coming in so the program can continue.

"People can donate $15 a month for a year to fund one child's buddy backpack for the whole school year. We're calling it 'Adopt-A-Buddy' so we are looking for adoptive parents out there," said Mike DeSantis of Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.

DeSantis also says the cost for the program has soared so monetary donations are the best way to support the program and help feed the about 8,700 students in it.

"The money that is given will allow us to purchase the food because we can buy it in bulk and we can buy it much less expensive," DeSantis said. "We get the one servings so parents don't have to be dividing up food. We are making it easier for these kids to eat a nutritious meal."

Every dollar that's donated equals 15 pounds of food that the food bank can buy.
