KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Salvation Army in Kirksville raised about $92,000 during the Christmas season. That's 9 percent over its $85,000 goal for its Red Kettle Campaign.
The money is used for the Salvation Army's Christmas programs, food pantry and other community needs.
Major Elmer Trapp thanks the entire Kirksville and Northeast Missouri community. "We are so grateful for the support the community and surrounding areas here give to The Salvation Army," Trapp said. "It would be my prayer for 2012 that the same support continues because we still have people coming here for everyday needs."
Major Trapp also says that the needs continue all year round, not just at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
"We still have people coming in to our facility needing food, clothing, and help with utilities and rent. We serve about 800 people a month," Trapp said. "I say to the community we still need your support with food and monetary donations as well."
