KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- KTVO has learned that former Kirksville Mayor Debbie Masten will spend the remainder of her federal prison sentence on home confinement.

Masten was convicted in connection with a fire at her Kirksville bar, Too Talls Two, in 2005.

Firefighters were called to the business in the early morning hours of New Year's Day 2005. The building sustained heavy smoke and water damage inside. The investigation of the fire was handled by the Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

In May 2007, Masten stood trial at the federal courthouse in Saint Louis. She was charged with arson in the fire at her business in Kirksville. The trial lasted two weeks, but it took the jury just two hours to convict her.
   
In July 2007, Masten was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison. She was originally sent to a minimum security facility in Bryan, Texas, transferred to a facility in Pekin, Ill and then was sent to a halfway house in Saint Louis.  Masten has now been transferred to home confinement, where she will serve the remainder of her term. She is scheduled to complete her sentence in April.
   
Chris Burke, with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, told KTVO he could not comment on specific cases, however, he said home confinement is common at the end of a prison term. This portion of the sentence is served at home under strict guidelines including curfew requirements. It could also include electronic monitoring equipment and other restrictions.
