AGENCY, IOWA -- An Ottumwa man was involved in a deadly accident near Agency Friday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, James Michael Niemeyer, 44, was traveling southbound on Cemetery Road in a Ford F150 pickup truck,  when he attempted to enter a farm driveway and mistakenly struck a ditch on the left side of it.

Sergeant Rob Borelli tells KTVO that troopers are still investigating how the pickup then came to rest in the field.

Niemeyer was transported to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Wapello County Sheriff's Office and the Ottumwa Police Department also assisted on scene.
