Heartland farmer dies in accident

RICHLAND, IOWA -- An accident at a Heartland farm ends with one person dead. 

According to Lynn Reasor, an investigator with the Keokuk County Iowa Medical Examiners office,  John Hammes, 60, of Richland Iowa died while working in a grain bin on his farm. 

Reasor tell KTVO, Hammes was attempting to unload a grain bin, when the vacuum grabbed him and pulled him downward, and the soybeans in the bin poured on top of him. 

Emergency crews tried to revive him at the scene, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred just before seven Thursday morning.
