NEAR CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- An Appanoose County man has died after being involved in an accident on Highway J46.

According to the Appanoose County Sheriff's Office, on Saturday, around 8:30 p.m., they received a report that a vehicle was turned on its side with the motor running on Highway J46, just southwest of Centerville. Emergency crews arrived and found a 1991 Jeep Wrangler overturned in a ditch and a bystander performing CPR on a man close by.

The man was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, where he was pronounced dead.  The deputies later identified the man as Terry Dean Brummett, 51, of rural Appanoose County. It was determined that he was the driver of the Jeep and the sole occupant.

The Sheriff's Office initial investigation revealed that Brummett was driving eastbound, when his vehicle travelled off the south side of the roadway and entered a ditch. The investigation states Brummett's Jeep flipped and rolled over on its top. Deputies said Brummett was not wearing a seatbelt; when the Jeep rolled over, he was ejected from it.

The case is still under investigation
