KIRKSVILLE, MO -- If you are looking for somewhere to have a hot home cooked meal on christmas day.... you wont have to go far.
The First United Methodist Church on Washington Street in Kirksville is holding a free community Christmas dinner at 1 P.M. Christmas Day.
Hy-Vee is catering the turkey and mash potatoes while green beans, sweet potatoes, rolls, salads, and desserts will all be homemade.
This was all made possible by monetary and food donations from the church community.
Event coordinator Nancy Pennington says they just want the less fortunate or those who are going to be alone this holiday to know that there is a place where they can go.
"There is a lot of people who are just alone on Christmas Day, we don't want them to be by themselves. We want them to come out and celebrate together." Pennington said. "There are also people in our community who are hungry. So we want them to know that they can come here and get a free meal. This was all made possible by donations. People are welcome to come and enjoy. They don't have to worry about bringing anything or don't have to worry about money. We want them just to come and celebrate."
The church will make food deliveries and is offering transportation to those who need it. The church will host its Christmas Service at 10 A.M. Christmas morning. For more information call First United Methodist Church at (660) 665-7712.
