KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- There are only two days left in the Salvation Army's Christmas fundraising campaign.
Major Elmer Trapp said so far, they have raised $63,556.80, which is only 74 percent of their goal to raise $85,000. Trapp said $41,029.96 was raised at the kettles and other donations have arrived in the mail in the form of some hefty checks. They're hoping to receive some more of those in order to reach their goal.
Some of the funds collected went to Christmas assistance, which was distributed to 520 people on Thursday. Also, the money is being used to distribute Christmas gifts to people living in nursing homes along with helping fund the Army's 2012 programming and services.
If you'd like to drop off a donation, the Salvation Army will be open on Christmas eve until noon, and then will reopen on Wed., Dec. 28. Donations can be mailed to: The Salvation Army, P.O. 1048, Kirksville, Mo. 63501.
