KIRKSVILLE, MO -- For Wednesday's Facebook Story of The Day, many of you wanted to know about the health requirements for servers and cooks while working at restaurants.
KTVO went to the Adair County Health Department in Kirksville and learned that the county has had an ordinance since 2002 that requires all restaurants to have a food service permit through the county health department.
All owners and employees must take a food safety educational course at the technical center and must be familiar with the dress code while handling food.
"They need to minimize the amount of jewelry that they have on." Said Stuart Blessing, Environmental Public Health Specialist at the Adair County Health Department. "They are also required to wear some type of a hair restraint such as a hat or a visor or a hair net. They are also required by the food code to minimize bear hand contact with ready to eat foods that won't be cooked or washed any further prior to eating such as cooked meats or bread or vegetables. They need to use gloves or tongs, spatulas, deli paper, and those kinds of things."
The Adair County Health Department also says that you can always access and view restaurant inspections online. You can go to: http://adair.lphamo.org/environmental.html
