KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Kirksville antique malls and stores were bringing back the memories during their Old Fashioned Christmas celebration.

On Dec. 2 and 3, many of the stores in town held an open house, where they slashed their prices and carollers sang to customers.

The co-owner of one of the participating stores, Lawson Hill Antique Mall, said her store has plenty of items that will remind people of Christmas when they were a child.

"So we have a lot of the old time sleds, toboggans, old cupboards, and  things people grew up with in the depression era," said Kathy Roberts.  "That's what people are looking for. When they shop for antiques, we find out that most of the shoppers are looking for memories."

Roberts said the vintage jewelry and antique furniture make great gifts for women and the vintage cars and pocket knifes are unique gifts for men.

Besides Christmas sales, Roberts said her store and other antique shops in Kirksville are joining forces with Kirksville Tourism to make the city an antique destination for Northeast Missouri.
