Fatal car-train collision

INDEPENDENCE, MO. (AP) -- One person has been killed after a freight  train collided with a car outside of Kansas City.  A local newspaper reported that the train hit the car early Sunday in Independence.

A female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car and another passenger, both male, were taken to the hospital. Police haven't released the victims' identities.

Police said the accident occurred when the driver of the car drove around a flashing railroad gate.
