KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- If you were doing some grocery shopping Thursday evening, you may had a chance to donate for a great cause.

The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri held it's "Gobble Up Hunger" 12 hour food drive at the Kirksville Wal-Mart.

People dropped off non-perishable goods and made monetary donations to help feed the hungry in Adair County just in time for the thanksgiving holiday.

"We do a 12 hour food drive every quarter and Thanksgiving falls into one of those quarters." Said Mike DeSantis of The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. "Some people think at this time of year that this is the time to give food because of Thanksgiving. I want to see people enjoy food on not just Thanksgiving but everyday of the year. But people now are being reminded that they are having a great meal and they want to give back. So we are giving the people the opportunity to help their neighbors. That's what this is about...neighbors helping neighbors in Adair County."

The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri along with its 135 agencies help feed about 2,300 people in Adair County a month alone and more than 97,000 in all 32 counties in Central and Northeast Missouri.

Every $1 that was donated will help The Food Bank buy about 20 pounds of food for every person in need.

The need is here all the time. Our three pantries here in Adair County...Christian Community Food Depot, The Salvation Army, and Love Inc. are doing a great job. We are collecting money and food. Every $1 the food bank collects can provide 20 pounds of food right back to Adair County. That's our job. That's what we do.

If you missed out on the food drive you can go to http://www.sharefoodbringhope.org/ to donate.
