taken from the scene Wednesday night
FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- The American Red Cross is stepping up to help victims in the Fairfield fire from Wednesday night.
Brandon Holstrom of the American Red Cross stationed in Ottumwa says it’s important to find housing for victims of any fire.
“Typically we want to get them somewhere safe, somewhere warm,” Holstrom said. “It was cold last night so we want to typically put them in a hotel of some type. If it’s a larger disaster, we’ll open up a shelter with the school. In last night’s situation, we did send a lot to the hotel there in Fairfield or some did stay with family members.”
Fire officials were still at the scene this afternoon taking care of hot spots. KTVO talked to Fairfield Fire Chief Scott Vaughan. He says the sate fire marshal will visit the scene Friday to conduct an investigation. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
The American Red Cross will always take donations for victims displaced from their homes.
