The 17-year-old driver of the car has been identified as Teddy Volchko, a senior at Davis County High School. Volchko was on his way to school when his Ford Taurus collided with the school bus. The crash occured at a sharp curve north of Lebanon, but the Van Buren Sherrif's department is still investigating the cause of the accident.

Volchko's aunt Tish Snider said that he is heavily sedated and in a lot of pain at the University of Iowa Hospital. He has two broken legs, a dislocated elbow and a broken finger. He is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday to place rods and screws in each of his legs and his hand.

"It could have been a lot worse," Snider said. "Our family is very relieved to hear that the passengers of the bus are okay."
