KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Hundreds of local veterans enjoyed a complimentary breakfast at Hy-Vee in Kirksville on Friday Morning.

It is Hy-Vee’s way of showing their appreciation on Veteran’s Day.

From 6-11am any veteran, young or old, enjoyed an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet.

This is the fourth year Hy-Vee has served breakfast on Veteran’s Day and say its just one of the ways they give back to the community.

“There is so many people in this community that have sacrificed and given their time and their lives, and it’s just a small way for us to let them know they are appreciated. It’s just a fantastic way to make them feel good about the service they've given.” said Assistant Store Director, Casey Higgins.

The event has grown every year. Last year they served about 350 local veterans and this year they hoped to serve about 500.

Hy-Vee says ever since they began providing free breakfast on Veteran’s day; they’ve gotten a great response from the community.

“They are so happy and it's the little things that make them feel good, and I don't know how many people have come up and said thank you and how much they appreciate it,” said Higgins. “It just really brightens their day." Higgins said.
