KIRKSVILLE, MO --
After a few days of bad weather, a Northeast Missouri park is now getting a new addition.

KTVO was at Memorial Park in Kirksville earlier Wednesday to see the new playground equipment being installed.
   
The funds for the project came from a land and water conservation fund grant that was given to the city at the end of last year. The price tag is right around $50,000 and it includes all the equipment and its installation by the burke company.
  
Kirksville Assistant City Manager Melanie Smith said t was a long process, but city leaders are excited about the new playground.

“We took several designs to our lakes and parks commission. They selected the design they liked the most and best.” Smith said. “Then they sent it to the city council for approval. Then once it was approved, it has taken about a month to order and get it delivered here. So we are very happy it has finally arrived.”

Smith also says the new playground should be a lot more fun than a traditional playground.

“It includes a lot of different activities. It has multiple play stations that are on it. We think it will accommodate a larger amount of children than the equipment that was here before.”

Memorial park will likely be closed through early next week to finish the installation.

The old playground equipment was donated to the city of Novinger, and it will be put up in its city park soon.
