OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Life in the City of Bridges just got a little safer for pets.
Hogs-4- Dogs USA presented an oxygen mask kit for pets to the Ottumwa Fire Department on Friday.
The kit, which costs about 90 dollars, has three masks designed specifically for house hold pets.
And while some may think saving pets from a house fire is not important the Ottumwa Fire Department disagrees.
“It’s important because animals in some people's homes are just like another member of the family. After all other human lives are saved in a fire; our next priority is our pets and property. So you know we do take a lot of pride in saving pets,” Deputy Chief Cory Benge said.
With Friday’s presentation, both Ottumwa fire stations have the pet masks.
Hogs for Dogs organizer Tami Hartley says providing the mask is in line with the organization's goal of improving the health and safety of pets.
Hartley adds that anyone that wishes to help out with Hogs-4-Dogs mission should come out to their Howloween party at RJ Performance Saturday Oct. 29.
Activities will include a costume party, for your pet of course.
