MT. PLEASANT, IOWA -- A Kansas man is sentenced in connection with a sex crimes case involving a young girl from southeast Iowa.
The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Friday that Kareem Ramos, 28, of Wichita, Kansas was given 14 years in prison for attempting to entice a child to engage in sexual activities and for possessing child pornography.
Ramos pleaded guilty back on June 20, 2011.
Investigators said Ramos attempted to entice a 14-year-old girl from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to engage in illegal sexual activities and used a cell phone to communicate with and text sexually graphic messages to the girl and an undercover police officer.
They said Ramos sent text messages as part of arranging a meeting with the 14-year-old, and he traveled from Wichita to Mt. Pleasant to meet the girl.
Ramos also possessed nude photos of the young girl.
When Ramos came under investigation, he tried to board a flight to Honduras, but he was arrested by FBI agents before he got on the plane.
The investigation was conducted by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and the FBI.
The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
