KIRKSVILLE, MO --
For Thursday’s Facebook Story of The Day, many of you wanted to know about if the current state of the economy has had an effect on giving in heartland churches.
KTVO went to Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Kirksville and learned that they were prepared for a decrease in giving when the economy went down hill back in 2008. But have been surprised that church attendance and the amount of giving have remained steady.
Mary Immaculate has been very pleased and thankful for the support of their community and sees that everyone hasn't forgotten the real meaning of the commitment to giving.
“In general the idea of giving to the church is to the realize all the blessings we have come originally from God.” Said Father Chris Cordes of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church. “So our giving to the church is a way to show our gratitude and our trust in God for the gifts we receive.”
All of the money given during the weekly offering goes toward church expenses like facilities, worship materials, educational programs and activities.
Mary Immaculate also holds fundraisers for specialized projects that have also been well supported by the church's community.
