KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI (AP) -- A temporary art structure in Kansas City, Mo., made up of dozens of large steel shipping containers is creating a buzz with its message about the national debt.
The containers face the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and spells out "IOU." The other side of the nearly seven-story structure spells out "USA."
The artist is John Salvest, of Jonesboro, Ark. He said he was inspired by the national debt problem but believes the message is open to the viewer's interpretation. The piece went up in September and will be taken down in mid-October. The art installation has been privately funded by Grand Arts, a Kansas-City based nonprofit gallery. The group isn't saying how much it cost, but a spokeswoman says it's one of the group's biggest projects.
