FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- Ronald McDonald is scheduled to make an appearance at the Jefferson County Park on Saturday, Sept. 17.

He's coming between 2 and 4 p.m. to be apart of the Freedom Trikers, "Freedom for Kids Benefit." The benefit will be held in Shelter 1 and 2. Ronald McDonald will play trike games with the kids.

The benefit is being held to raise money for the Ronald McDonald house in Iowa City. It will include a $3 homemade chili lunch, $5 buffet dinner, and a silent auction. The event is open to the public.

Dale Walker, the Assistant Director of the Freedom Trikers, said the trike rides really excite kids and the elderly, who at times do not get outside.

"It's a good feeling," Walker said.

"You get the nursing home people out there and we've had a lot of them cry on us even. They say it feels so good to get out and get the wind in their face. It's something they haven't felt in so long. Instead of being couped up, it gives them a little freedom."

The Freedom Trikers are from all over Iowa. They visit nursing homes to give trike rides to residents and they sponsor a special needs baseball team.
